"Remember, all of man's happiness is in the little valleys. Tiny little ones. Small enough to call from one side to the other". Jean Giono.

Maria Bertrán’s use of vibrant colors and her bold brush strokes create works with a unique richness and depth, appreciable from a distance and close up.

Her relentless pursuit of capturing light through her work has taken her to remote places in Tahiti, Mexico, Venezuela, France, Italy and the United States. Her paintings clearly broadcast her passionate appreciation for the beauty of landscapes, harbors, boats, rivers, towns, markets scenes, doors, facades, the still life, and the live model. And her fearless technique applying thick amounts of paint and creating intense contrast, sets her apart from her contemporaries.

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Bertrán received her Bachelors in Fine Arts from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. She currently resides between her studios in a tucked away hamlet in the heart of Provence, France and in Laguna Beach, California.
